READING THE WATER, 2023

Size: 12' x 6' Material - Fused Recycled Glass, Steel

ARTIST STATEMENT

"Reading The Water" celebrates the power and beauty of water, emphasizing its essential role in shaping our lives and showcasing the interconnection between water and the Town of Bladensburg. Each panel of kiln-fired glass tells its own story, inviting viewers to be transported to another place, much like the books in the library. This commanding glass mural embodies the fluidity and beauty of water through organic shapes and flowing lines, reminiscent of rivers, ponds, and oceans. Utilizing translucent and transparent glass, the artwork changes with the shifting light, offering a dynamic visual experience. At the heart of this artwork is a message about the importance of environmental stewardship and the need to protect our natural resources. Much of the glass mural is made using recycled glass and components. By drawing attention to the beauty and fragility of water, "Reading The Water" encourages viewers to reflect on their own relationship with the natural world and to consider how they can contribute to a more sustainable future.
