Community Development Through The Power Of Art

At PGAHC, we believe that creativity belongs in the heart of every community.

Through Creative Placemaking and Placekeeping, we activate public spaces with art, culture, and storytellingβ€”transforming familiar places into vibrant hubs of connection and pride. Whether it’s a neighborhood mural, a cultural festival, or a performance on a city street, these experiences do more than beautifyβ€”they build identity, celebrate history, and bring people together.

Creative Placemaking In

THE BLUE LINE CORRIDOR

Creative Placemaking in Action: Transforming the Blue Line Corridor

The Blue Line Corridor represents County Executive Angela Alsobrooks’ vision to create the next big destination for the County and region – a dense, multimodal, amenity-rich sports and entertainment destination.

The Blue Line Corridor will become a major economic engine of the County by catalyzing development including new affordable housing, creating jobs, and incentivizing the development of a sports and entertainment-branded corridor. The vision is not just about the Blue Line Corridor – it is an opportunity to craft a replicable model for place-based economic development throughout the County.

PGAHC’s Role in the Blue Line Corridor

  • Lead Agency for Cultural Projects:
PGAHC is a lead agency for two major cultural anchors of the Blue Line Corridorβ€” the Civic Plaza (breaking ground in 2025) and the Central Library Cultural Center, now in planning with Lord Cultural Resources.

  • Driving Arts-Led Revitalization:
Through the Art of Place initiative, PGAHC is guiding the integration of public art, storytelling, and placemaking strategies that ensure the Blue Line Corridor grows with cultural authenticity at its core.

  • Investing in Economic and Community Growth:
Public art installations, artist commissions, and creative programming will drive tourism, local business support, real estate value appreciation, and job creation throughout the Corridor.

  • Celebrating Community Identity:
Every mural, sculpture, and activation along the Blue Line Corridor is designed to honor local history, reflect community voices, and create spaces where residents feel seen, valued, and connected.

  • Building a Model for the Nation:
By embedding arts and culture into major infrastructure investments, PGAHC’s leadership is setting a national example for how creative placemaking can foster sustainable economic development and preserve community heritage.

What is Creative Placemaking in the Blue Line Corridor?

Creative placemaking in the Blue Line Corridor uses arts, culture, and community-driven design to transform public spaces into vibrant, welcoming destinations that reflect the identity of Prince George’s County.

At its core, creative placemaking enhances a neighborhood’s quality of life by blending artistic expression with intentional community developmentβ€”always guided by the voices and visions of the people who live, work, and play there.

Projects can take many forms, from temporary art installations and live performances to permanent spaces that invite connection, storytelling, and celebration of local culture.

Who benefits from Creative Placemaking projects?

Creative placemaking benefits the entire community. Residents enjoy more vibrant and meaningful public spaces; artists gain opportunities to share their work and shape the look and feel of their neighborhoods; and local businesses, visitors, and civic life all thrive when public spaces are alive with creativity and culture.

There are several ways for artists to take part in creative placemaking efforts across Prince George’s County, including the Blue Line Corridor. PGAHC offers opportunities through public calls for artists, Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and by inviting artists to join our Public Artist Registry.
