Groundbreaking at Wayne K. Curry Civic Plaza: A New Chapter for Arts, Culture, and Community in Prince George’s County
On April 9, 2025, Prince George’s County celebrated a transformative milestone with the groundbreaking of the Wayne K. Curry Civic Plaza in Largo. As the first signature project of the Blue Line Corridor initiative, this civic space is more than a construction site—it’s a symbol of our county’s commitment to inclusive growth, cultural vibrancy, and community-centered design.
For PGAHC, this moment marks the realization of a shared vision: a dynamic, accessible public space where art, culture, and community converge. The Civic Plaza will feature a performance lawn and stage, an art walk, and flexible spaces designed for festivals, exhibitions, and everyday creativity. As the lead agency for the public art strategy on this signature Blue Line Corridor development, PGAHC is proud to be shaping the cultural identity of the Wayne K. Curry Civic Plaza through thoughtful, community-centered art.
This groundbreaking project is the result of extensive community engagement. Through workshops and events like the Placemaking Downtown Largo Festival, residents provided ideas that influenced the design and programming of the plaza. PGAHC is proud to have participated in these collaborative efforts, ensuring that the arts remain integral to our county’s development.
The Wayne K. Curry Civic Plaza is scheduled to open in December 2025, and PGAHC’s work will continue to progress alongside the construction. We are honored to lead the cultural and artistic initiatives of this transformative space and eagerly anticipate sharing more about upcoming calls for artists, design concepts, and community engagement opportunities.
As we celebrate this groundbreaking moment, we also reaffirm our mission: to elevate the arts, amplify the voices of Prince George’s residents, and create spaces that reflect who we are. The Wayne K. Curry Civic Plaza will serve as a place for gathering, celebration, creativity, and connection, and PGAHC is proud to help bring it to life through the power of art and culture.
