New at Arts’tination: Rooted in History Honors Prince George’s County’s Equestrian Legacy

A new window exhibition has arrived at Arts’tination at National Harbor, bringing an important piece of Prince George’s County history into the spotlight.

Rooted in History celebrates the County’s 330th anniversary by examining the enduring influence of Black jockeys and horsemen whose skill and contributions helped shape the earliest chapters of American horse racing. Through contemporary art, the exhibition reconnects visitors with a history that is deeply rooted in Prince George’s County—and too often overlooked.

Presented in conjunction with PGAHC’s inaugural Equestrian Art Competition, Rooted in History features works by Dr. Eugene Poole, Luther Wright, Jovan Bethel, DionJa’Y Pollard, and Curtis Woody. Spanning painting, photography, mixed media, and public art sculpture, the works explore themes of excellence, resilience, movement, memory, identity, and legacy.

The exhibition also reflects PGAHC’s continued commitment to using the arts to preserve local history and create new opportunities for residents and visitors to engage with the stories that have shaped Prince George’s County.
