Solstice Glow Shines Bright: Celebrating a New Community Landmark in Mount Rainier

PGAHC celebrated the official unveiling of Solstice Glow, a vibrant street mural by Chalk Riot, now energizing the Bunker Hill Road corridor outside Joe’s Movement Emporium in Mount Rainier.

The October 24 ribbon-cutting marked the debut of this large-scale public art piece, turning a busy intersection into a safer, more inviting entrance for the community. Created through The Neighborhood Design Center’s Made You Look program as an Art in the Right of Way installation, Solstice Glow reimagines the Bunker Hill Road and 33rd Street intersection—frequented by children, families, and neighbors—as a space for connection, visibility, and pride.

Community members, artists, and partners gathered to celebrate, reflecting on how intentional public art can improve safety and foster a stronger sense of community. The bold, geometric design not only brightens the street but also helps slow traffic, promote awareness, and capture Mount Rainier’s lively spirit.

The Prince George’s Arts and Humanities Council was proud to sponsor this project, reinforcing its dedication to community-focused public art that uplift neighborhoods and infuse creativity into daily environments.

Solstice Glow now serves as a permanent landmark—showcasing how art can influence our movement, experience, and care for shared public spaces.
