ARTIST STATEMENT
HOWARD CONNELLY DESIGN (HCD) creates sculptural centerpieces for public, commercial, and residential spaces by focusing on high-impact graphic compositions, beautification, public safety, budget, and longterm maintenance-free artwork.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
HOWARD CONNELLY
Howard Connelly is a sculptor working from the Eastern Shore of Maryland. He grew up in Colorado working with his father Charles in his welding research laboratory alongside his mother Regina, a painter. He worked in special effects in photography and film in Los Angeles for five years before moving to the Washington DC area in 1990, working in commercial art. Howard opened his official design/build studio and sculpture business in 2000.
He has a passion for kinetic and public art, many pieces featuring up-cycling creativity, and showing his expertise in conceptualization, fabrication and finishing. He works with private collectors, architects, designers, restaurants, schools, museums, and nonprofit organizations, and has served as conservator for DCCAH, resident Sculptor for HGTV's Curb Appeal, and is a member of the Washington Sculptors Group.
The portfolio highlights Howard's artistry, expertise, and craftsmanship in the use of wood, metal, plastic, glass, fiberglass, welding and carving, building custom tools, and heroic scale sculpture.
