Fabric Mono-Printing with Artist Andi Cullins

Explore color, texture, and creative expression through the art of fabric mono-printing with fiber artist Andi Cullins.

In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn how to use gel plates and acrylic paints to create unique printed designs on cotton fabric. Through guided demonstrations and experimentation, attendees will explore layering techniques, color theory, texture printing, and multi-layer composition.

Printed fabric pieces created during the workshop can later be used for quilting, sewing, collage work, hand stitching, or mixed media art projects.

This workshop is designed for beginners and experienced creatives alike, encouraging participants to embrace experimentation and discover the unexpected beauty of mono-printing.

ABOUT ANDI CULLINS

Andi Cullins is a largely self-taught art quilter and mixed media artist. She began her art career in 2019, post retirement, after a career in executive search and coaching.  She considers herself an emerging artist at age 70.   Referring to herself as the Grandma Moses of fiber art, she says she is “aging to perfection”.

Ms. Cullins refers to her body of work as CODE

SWITCH, in which she uses primarily African and Australian Aboriginal prints, along with her own hand-dyed and commercial fabrics, to create scenes, portraits and abstracts and reinterpretation of iconic images. In these works, she “paints” with the fabric, creating mosaics, collages and appliques. She uses this same fabric palate to cover reclaimed three-dimensional objects, using the prints and tones of the fabric to highlight the structure and movement of the piece.

Most recently, Andi began a series of smaller works using monoprint techniques on paper and fabric in collage along with commercial fabrics, highlighted by  string or stitching.

Ms. Cullins was invited to participate in "Women Artists of the DMV 2025" show by Lenny Campello. Her work will also be on display through DC Commission on the Arts 2025 showcase, and in “Serenity” at Gallery B throughout October 2025.
